18. And indeed those before them belied (the Messengers of Allah), then how terrible was My denial (punishment)? (Muhammad Taqi-ud-Din bin Abdil-Qadir Al-Hilali / Muhsin Khan)
And already had those before them denied, and how [terrible] was My reproach. (Sahih International)
Those who came before them also gave the lie (to the Messengers): then how awesome was My chastisement! (Abu Al-Alaa Maududi)
