This video shows an Abaya fashion show held in Dubai – supposedly depicting Islamic Clothing for today’s Muslim women. Many would argue that many of these Abaya dresses depicting “Abaya Fashion” have nothing to do with being “Islamic”. Others see nothing wrong with such an attire. Based on the spirit of modesty that Islam preaches, would you categorize this as Islamic clothing for women? You be the judge. Voice your opinion below and be objective in your response, especially when quoting from Quran and hadith.

Assalamu-Alaikum – Unfortunately, Muslims have taken this hijab thing all WRONG. Hijab (to cover) is to cover a Muslimah’s beauty from prying eyes. Have you seen Muslimahs wearing hijab in tight clothing? That completely defeats the purpose. They are covering one part of their beauty (hair) and showing off ALL other parts. Heads still turn on those Muslimahs. That’s not hijab and that’s not what the intention in the Quran. It was to protect the Muslimahs beauty from others. So, if someone wears hijab or abaya only to show off their beauty in abaya and hijab to others, then that’s not what the Quran and Allah commanded. The following verse alone should get the point across. We can chose to follow it or come up a million interpretations to run away from it. >>>>> In Quran, Allah says in Surah Noor: “And tell the believing women to lower their gaze (from looking at forbidden things), and protect their private parts (from illegal sexual acts, etc.) and not to show off their adornment except only that which is apparent (like palms of hands or one eye or both eyes for necessity to see the way, or outer dress like veil, gloves, head-cover, apron, etc.), and to draw their veils all over Juyubihinna (i.e. their bodies, faces, necks and bosoms, etc.) and NOT TO REVEAL THEIR ADORNMENT EXCEPT to their husbands, their fathers, their husbands fathers, their sons, their husbands sons, their brothers or their brothers sons, or their sisters sons, or their (Muslim) women (i.e. their sisters in Islam), or the (female) slaves whom their right hands possess, or old male servants who lack vigour, or small children who have no sense of the shame of sex. And let them not stamp their feet so as to reveal what they hide of their adornment. And all of you beg Allah to forgive you all, O believers, that you may be successful. “
I viewed the show, part of it, just to get the feeling that I am watching a lingerie catwalk…indeed…abayas and scarves flutering all over but not over the right place…not stylish at all…I wasn’t impressed by that parade…I was expecting something more decent and feminine display…IN Dubai…not abaya over jeans and some girls trying to imitate the Victoria secret’s models …
I recommend those who want to present their creation for islamic clothes to expose it on lifeless dummies or if some dummies want the catwalk, to do it under cover…and I mean the complete cover…and a better walk…not that indecent hopping walk…
well yes…sorry about that…I couldn’t stop it…
Most people have forgotten the real intention behind the hijab and wear it just as a formality.
this is simply a joke played in the name of abbaya . i was ashamed to see it, abbaya is meant to cover the body and not to attract peoples attention towards you.may allah give them toufeeq for not practising such evils in the name of abbaya and all.
I like your comments
The topic that has been promoted by moderator is one of the finest that i must appreciate.
My opinion to this theme is that ” ITS ISLAM WITHIN WHICH THERE IS THE TRADITION OF ABBAYA FOR WOMEN AND NOT THE ISLAM WHICH LIES WITHIN ABBAYA” so for those who practice abbaya as for the purpose of fashion shows its simply allowable within Islam as well because Islam prohibits those clothes which are ethicaly unacceptable or which reveals a women body and not abbaya which is mandatory for women but yes abbaya is one of the recomendations.
salam alaikum, well you can call it a double standard hijab, better not to follow it rather than killing its modesty!its a shame!!
The fashion show on Abaya is indecent and absolutely unislamic, what do the organizers want to achieve -they want to sell their products
but if it is for the purpose of attracting the opposite sex, it is evil and the sponsors and organizers will surely see the wrath of Allah when He wills. Read Surah Noor and the explanations(tafseer by Ibne Kauther) and know what Allah wants. The show is going against Allah’s commandments!! I suggest you should not give space to such videos in your site.Thanks. May Allah guide us all !! Ameen !!
The fashion show on Abaya – They are trying to confuse the muslim youngesters and to sell these types of products.
Every muslim should know & follow what the Quran says.
May Allah help all the muslims.
I think that’s very true the victims in the western and eastern culture has become the youth who are taught beauty is to buy this. Young girls are just wasting money to look “good”. I feel sorry for any Muslim girls who are not observing hijab fully with the modesty including lowering gaze, being shy, and avoid perfume makeup ect. The benefits for hijab are numerous for a women and society. May Allah guide the ummah.
I havent viewed the video, but i already can guess what i will see. Sadly, some Muslims in Muslim countries, and non-Muslim countries alike, no longer realise the importance of the abaya, and what the abaya should be like. It has become more of a cultural dress, and a good form of business.
Both the men and ladies should be educated about the hijab, and what it should be like. Hijab should be worn because of faith and imaan in Allah swt and then because of modesty. The prophet pbuh said “Modesty is part of faith, and faith leads to heaven; while vulgarity is part of unfaith, and unfaith leads to hell.”
The men should have gheera upon their wives, sisters, mothers and sisters in islam. The ladies should be taught to wear hijab from a young age, because its quite impossible for girls to start wearing hijab after 15-16 years of being non hijabis, wearing tight skinny fit jeans, short tops etc.
Many of the things happening in Dubai today frighten and sadden me, including this recent event; and its all happening at the nucleus of Islam. May Allah grant us the strength to recognise what is wrong and the ability to stop doing it. Amin.
May Allah SWT send peace and blessings upon Prophet Muhammed, his family, and his companions. Ameen.
As salaam alaikum Sani G,
I agree with your comments dear respected one.I would only add, May Allah swt give us the Courage to speak out against these prohibitions. The shaitan is strong in the collection of clothing on these videos. These are good examples of WHAT NOT TO WEAR!
Thank you for saying it simply and with brevity Sani G.
This is not such an impressive video about Hijab. In my opinion there is some secrets hands behind this abya fasion, who don,t want that Muslims women spend their life according the islamic principles.
assalamu alaikum….this video is rather shocking and quite plainly sad, to be happening amidst the muslim world..the abaya should be a cloak of modesty..and if flaunted, worn to attract attention or stand out, it takes away the reward and essence of wearing it. to muslim women out there, as long as we keep buying fancy hijabs and abayas, there are going to be people selling, so lets make sure that our niyyah for covering ourselves is pure and correct..and insha allah we receive the reward for doing so..
This was a misleading and sad fashion show which, in my opinion, brought shame and insult to the classic abaya and why and how it should rightly be worn by muslim women. In the name of fashion or classic designs or what have u, i strongly believe that one shouldn’t compromise on things related to religious issues.
I don’t come from a culture that wears abayas, but, however i have to admit that some of the abayas are cool but just not worn correctly with the proper hijabs.
Anyway….Peace out to all, stay modest and may Allah continue to show us the way to the straight path…..Insya Allah
RATHER NOT WEAR AN ABAYA IF U WEARING IT OPEN!! COZZ THATS JUST MAKING A MOCKERY OF OUR DEEN!
As-salamu Alaikum….As I’m watching this video, I really felt sad… as this is shocking and quite disgusting, probably we all know that the ramp models weren’t muslims but whoever got this idea… PLEASE do it as DECENT one. Abaya should be a cloak of modesty. The more you cover your Aura the best walk you could have in the street.
I’m really sorry……..
Having lived in saudi arabia, to be precise in Makka for a while, I was not shocked to see the abayas displayed on the show. Similar abayas are widespread and are quite popular and worn amongst a few young women that live in Jeddah and particularly those that come from UEA (although it might not be as vibrant and colourful as the ones depiceted on the show).
The sole purpose of wearing an abaya is to keep yourself protected from the curious eyes of male strangers.
It is sad to see these women circulating the Kaba, dressed in these fashionable, glamorous abayas. And if you were to see the strike they pose when walking. Its alluring and its sickeningly wrong. If they can captivate my own attention, what about the hundreds and thousands of men that go to the Masjidul Haram for religious purposes. How are they supposed to avert their eyes from women attired in abayas that comprise of genuine sparkly crystals that bling every moment.
May Allah guide these women to mend their ways and keep us distant from these vile temptations. Ameen.
NO THIS DOES NOT REPRESENT THE MUSLIMAH AT ALL! IT IS IN NO WAY ISLAMIC OR THAT OF THE ABAYAS. THERE IS NO MODESTY IN ANY OF THE CLOTHING DISPLAYED AND THE WEARING OF PANTS IS HARAM NOT TO MENTION THE HIGH HEEL SHOES. TOTALLY UNAPPROPRIATE ATTIRE.
Abaya is not for Fashion, according to preeching of ISLAM it is nesccory for women/adul girl to br modest and hide her body from Stranger not to show for all. A long debate requires on ABAYA, In Europie and America no respect for women because they like to show their beauty than to hide.
Assalamu alaikum warahmatullah.I will rather say this video is pathetic.Islam will never encourage or expose women like this. This video is unfortunate.May Allah SWT guide us women onto the right path. Go home and cover yourselves and become mar`atussalih
the video is just so pathetic its a way to distract the younger muslim generation. the abbaya is the cloak of modesty if worn in the right manner.
may Allah subhaan taala gives us muslim sisters tofeeq in wearing the abbaya in a proper way and shame to all them people who call them self muslims and yet they perpatrait such evil act in the name of islam.
What a disgrace and a true depiction of modern lost unislamic so called muslims. This is not the real islam but a modernised twisted and disgusting animation by the minority of what islam deploys.Shame on you all in Dubhai. and may God destroy all forms of Humilliaton of islam.
Assalamo “Alykom Wa Rahmatullah! This video is absolutly disgusting and does not depict the Islamic Clothing in any way. The people who are responsible for this are using the muslim women like the kufaars have used their women to sell products. The women also modelling these designs are imitating the cat walk like the non muslim models. This show their lack of islamic education regarding how a muslim woman should behave and dress in public. The high heels they are wearing is causing their bodies to sway seductively with men eyes upon them also their body language is disgusting. this video 5s causing a lot of sadness to people who view this! Shukran Jazkumallahu Khair.
Asssalamu alaikkum brothers and our dearest sisters…….. ,
Islam is simply cut and clear so why we bother? its clearly revealed 1400 years ago, how a jilbaab should be in quraan. if some body is wearing an abaya i think she had ignorantly kept her feet in to this poisonous fashion world of Glamour. yes brother abaya is the cloak of modesty if worn in the right manner. if you wear it in right manner you wouldn’t call it an abaya. if one is expecting only the plesure and satisfaction of Allah, please follow what Allah had said and what allah is fond of, but on the way and style of our beloved prophet muhammad practically showed us, rather follow, what rest of the world says and shows. Islam is perfect and it is the modern and simple way of life so please do not make it complicated to your own selves and blame the religion
The bigining was Jilbaab>> Past was Abaya>> Present is Fashion Abaya>>what will be the Future???????
May Allah (S.W.T) bless us to protect the ummah of our beloved prophet muhammad (R.S.A.S)
I was sad when i saw this show, abaya means to cover your shape of ur body and to cover your satar, in islam, a lady is not allowed to attract opp. sex, but in this film mmmmmmmm hah…………..
This is a fasion show not an islamic hijab , or abaya
subna llah that not abaya not hijab its moda n and style
may allah give hidayah all muslim women ameen.
Well wearing hijab is to follow the order of Allahu-tha’ala thru our beloved prophet. Why we need fashion show for that. Masha Allah, I really appricate the comments of our sisters against it. I felt like someone is forcefully pushing western way of life style into Islamic culture or practices.
ouch thats upseting
This is to do with everything except Islam. I don’t know why people have to do all these vulgar things why they hide behind Islam. The meaning of Hijab and modesty is tottally defeated in this show. This catwalk in all these vulgar dresses in name of abaya is pathetic. Do whatever you want to do but please please please don’t do it in the name of Islam. It ashames muslim women’s modesty.
Abaya becomes hijab if its worn with the intention of being modest by covering the aura of a matured muslim lady, not revealing the shape of ones body or attracting attention. In my opinion, the video does not depict islam, and the sayings of prophet Mohammad SAW
I watched the video and it made me sad. God willing I will say the Shahada today and begin my life “officially” as a Muslim.
I already wear a head scarf and plan to cover more completely. I look forward to wearing the abaya for the security and respect it will bring me. Even here in godless Los Angeles, CA men respect a modestly dressed woman.
What those “designers” have done to the beauty and status of a true abaya wearing woman is awful.
I am learning more and more everyday how much so called Muslims are moving away from Islam. This fashion show attempts to touch on modesty, but failed miserably. Muslimahs do not expose their necks, stomachs or their shapes. We are suppose to only expose those things to our husbands. Modesty is more than covering, it is separating the Muslimah from the general population. This fashion show is a mockery of our deen and may Allah (SWT) have mercy on the designer, the promoter and the models.
i am very much afraid about our position in hereafter
Allay may forgive them and us and give hidayath, Insha Allah
did ummahaatil mu’mineen, our mothers, dress like this? would Aishah radiyallaahu anha, our mother, wear such clothes and walk on a stage in front of strange men and women in this fashion? la wallaahi. if people want to go around wearing overly-adorned and attractive clothes, which are also revealing and exposing, then thats between them and Allaah, but please do not waste the efforts of our beloved prophet Mohammed salallaahu alaihi wa sallam and tarnish the image of this beautiful religion by giving it the label ‘islamic clothing’. wallaah there is nothing islamic about it whatsoever. some of this clothing is even more attractive and adorned than regular western clothing, SubhanAllaah! this is fashion and culture. don’t associate with the beautiful deen of Allaah, and in turn misguide lots of youngsters and women into thinking this is the correct form of hijab, please. Jazakamullaahu khayrun.
I viewed a part of the video and yes I agree with everyone who made comments, this has nothing to do with Islam but everything to do with selling products. The condition of the Muslim is frightening today.
Alhamdulillla! it was gratifying to me to see all the wonderful comments against such a thing. May Allah give us the guidance to do what is good for us in this world and in the hereafter. Ameen!
Assalamalaikum wa ramatuallah wa barakatuh
Masha’allah I’m very proud of my brothers and sisters who commented here thus far who agree that this ‘fashion’ of so-called abayas is a sin and a shame. While I found this fashion show shocking to say the least, I am more pleased from my heart that I can be proud of so many of you in the Ummah for speaking out against this. May Allah swt increase your rewards and your eeman. I will definitely keep you all in my prayers and duas.
These so-called ‘Abaya’ will only draw the women far away from possibly entering His Paradise.
— I had never imagined to find a website where the visitors are enthusiastic to learn about Islamic teachings like here in IqraSense, Alhamdulillah…
These type of abaya are not worn for Allah these are for fashion only.
This is only fashion. a woman must cover her adornments when going out. but these abayas will surely attract men’s eyes. May allah guide them on the right path.
i think that the Abays were very pretty. They all could be worn in a more modest manner. I think that for the benefit of the “fashion industry” they were presented in a fleeting manner which would appeal to the masses not just muslim women. I think that we should support more Muslim sisters taking steps to find independence and self sufficiency.
May Allah SWT send peace and bestow blessings on the Prophet Muhammed, his family, and his companions. Ameen.
We are all different and often see things differently. I pray that sisters do not wear these garments, most of them, almost 99.9 % of them outside other than their bedroom for their husbands. I understand your premise that we should support more Muslim sisters taking steps to find independence and self-sufficiency. Sister, we should expect support and be willing to design garments that reflect the best ways; the ways that clearly described in the Quran and the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammed saaw.
Your words seem innocent and caring. Know that we should support each other and advise each other the way that is best. How we become self-sufficient is important. We should earn the Jannah by producing the best to become self-sufficient. May Allah swt guide us all to the best. Insha’Allah, we should pray for each other to understand what is best and that Allah swt protect us all from the influences of the shaitan and our weaker selves. Ameen.
eeeeeeeeekkkkkssssssssss , this is not at all Islamic clothing. I fail to understand , how anyone with brains and fear of Allah , can say that the above is Islamic Dressing.
I’m sure this is not Islamic… 😀 And this is not good fashion design either. I mean, look at those jeans, those some kind of Moulin Rouge slews, showing belly… Such a poor taste. Please… It just seems Dubai is trying to be a new New York.
The above comment from Laila perfectly summarize all issue —-

May Allah SWT confer peace, and bestow blessings upon Prophet Muhammed, his family, and his companions, and all those who follow the Quarn and the Sunnah of Muhammed saaw! Ameen.
WHOA!! This is an insult to see. I felt embarrassed that a sister dressed in an abaya and is Muslim designed these clothing. We must pray for her and all others who are so misguided. May Allah swt show them the error of their public actions and guide them to the simple beauty of Islam. Ameen.
Unfortunately, the designer either lacks understanding of her Deen or is misguided for the sake of being seen. There was a sign in the back near the entrance of the venue for this Shollywood show entrance that read “Creations…..Show Off”, were the last two words on the introductory board. That is exactly what these garments do- show off the women in a way that all Believing women and believing men must avoid. Thin, see-through fabric. May we not ignore these displays by protecting our children and adults from them. Advise the designers, boycott their stores, petition them to discontinue such, more than anything else, pray to Allah SWT for protection from the influences of the non-believers, who are mostly guided by the shaitan.
This is just a few of many who spread their misguidance around the world. May Allah SWT give us the courage to publicly disassociate these types of garments and actions with Islam. TMany of the struggling newcomers to Islam in America think that this is the way to dress because the fashions come from an “Eastern Country filled with Muslims”. Our dawah is challenged because of these type of things. Although this so-called fashionable challenge joins the other atrocitites we fight against in my country. Thank Allah SWT for His Clear Message. Insha’Allah, those who choose to hear the message will. Everything else, oh well, will go astray. May Allah azza wa jal, guide us with the best arguments. Ameen.
Hi, I am not a born muslimah but a American/Canadian white 49yo revert of 6mos… I read the same in the Quran where it states for the believing woman to lower their gaze and draw the covering over their boosem and to cover their private parts… I wear hijab with no adornments other than a hijab pin and on occassion a cuff bracelet, i dress modestly but modern at the same time. I see muslimahs showing up to Halaqa with tight jeans, makeup, lots of hair showing and bling blinged hijabs..i then hear sisters who say everyone wears hijab differently and the most important is the intention… to me this is not the intention Allah(swt) meant.. or am I a misdirected revert???
Well, it goes against the Islamic guidelines of lowering one’s gaze (presumably men attend this as well), but also contradicts Islamic guidelines of Muslim modesty in clothing, as men and women are not supposed to wear clothing considered glamorous. While this is vague, fashion shows clearly fall into this category. This is not in the spirit of Islam, but did the Prophet (peace be upon him) not predict this: ”they will be clothed, but they will not be clothed” (or words to that effect)?. Salam. Allahu a’lam, and His Will is supreme and He will judge best.
I agree with the comments of course in lack of modesty. The models present almost like peacocks (which are male to attract the female btw)
However I would encourage people to remember that fashion shows are usually over the top in order to produce entertaining drama, and creativity. Often one sees clothing one would not wear in real life as presented and this is normal catwalk action. Real life women would not walk that way and the outfits usually aren’t intended to be strutted on the street as the models do. Modesty is covering, and tight jeans, or light colored tight garments under see through chiffon, etc are not appropriate – let those who choose the path of success wear clothing that is modest. Pretty clothes feel nice, and let them not be flashy. Good fabrics, and simple design that is not eye catching is best. The catwalk is not literal.
Much respect to Laila and good no of Muslim sisters here who speak the truth May Allah save this ummah ameen
