Mike Huckabee on Benazir Bhutto’s Death, Pakistanis, and Illegal US Immigration
Very recently, Mike Hucakbee, former Arkansas Governor and US presidential candidate remarked on Benazir Bhutto’s death that he is concerned about illegal Pakistanis crossing the border.
Huckabee said that the US should,
have an immediate, very clear monitoring of our border, and particularly to make sure, if there’s any unusual activity of Pakistanis coming into the country. We just need to be very very thorough in looking at every aspect of our own security internally.
Obviously, many see such comments to be very sensitive, especially when making such comments about citizens of a country which just lost a known personality. However, later Huckabee said,
When I say single them out I’m making the observation that we have more Pakistani illegals coming across our border than of all other nationalities except those immediately south of the border. And in light of what’s happening in Pakistan, it ought to give us pause as to why are so many illegals coming across these borders.
As is obvious, Mike Huckabee’s campaign about running for the president includes a special emphasis on curbing illegal immigration, and it should be. Illegal immigration is painful not just for the country where people are immigrating to, but is equally painful for illegal immigrants who end up risking their lives by crossing through the border and live in fear during their stay in the country.
